Most people believe that Moksha means liberation of soul or salvation of soul from all bondages. That which is bound should be liberated. Now, is it the body or the soul that is bound? Who suffers the imprisonment, the prison or the prisoner? So, this body is the prison, and the one within, is bound. The Soul is within the body, then does it mean that the Soul is the one that is bound? No.
Read on, to know it through Param Pujya Dadashri’s conversation given below.
Questioner: Does the Soul have to wander life after life because it has been possessed by the body complex?
Dadashri: Nothing possesses the Self. This is all the problem of the ego (ahamkar). If the ego is there, the Self is not, and if the Self is there, the ego is not.
Questioner: But liberation has to be granted to the Self, right?
Dadashri: The Self is already in Moksha (liberated). It does not have any misery (dukh) at all. The one experiencing pain and misery is the one that needs to be liberated. The Self has never come into bondage; the Self has always been free. It is because of ignorance of the Self that he believes ‘I am bound’ and when he attains the knowledge ‘I am free’, then he becomes liberated. In fact, he is not bound; he simply believes he is.
When no circumstance can cling or attach to the Self, not a single karma will cling or attach to it. No karmas exist for the liberated Souls and such are only to be found in the Siddha Kshetra (the permanent abode of absolutely liberated Souls).
A quick and easy way to get rid of your egoism is to attain Self-realization through the grace of the Gnani Purush. With this knowledge, your egoism dissipates.
Mahavira taught that the soul can be purified by destroying hatred and attachment. We are in control of our own destiny and can attain liberation.
While he believed that there is no superior being or god who controls our fate, the soul follows the cycle of birth, death and rebirth until it reaches liberation. What is the purpose of this universe? Why is it here? Why am I here?
Is it possible to liberate the soul? There is no enemy outside your soul. The real enemies live inside you—anger, pride, greed, attachment and hatred.
Every soul is omniscient and blissful from within. The bliss does not come from outside. There is no separate existence of God. Everybody can attain Godhood by making an effort to liberate the soul.
The soul comes alone and goes alone. Nobody accompanies it and nobody becomes its mate. Every soul is independent. No soul depends on another. The soul must recognise its true self.
Scientifically, when two different elements come together, a third entity is formed.
This is also how the ego arises, when the matter and Soul come together.
Ego means ‘I’. It refers to existence: ‘I am’. All living beings are aware of their own existence, “I am”. However, they do not know who they are, “Who I am”.
This is why all of us mistakenly believe the temporary body or the name given to it as our identity. For example, one would say,
‘I am John,’ but that is a name given to identify the body. You are not ‘John’ and yet you believe you are ‘John’.
To say that which you are not in reality is called egoism (ahamkar). “I am this body,” “I am an engineer,” “I am her husband,” “I am of this age,” “I am fat” etc. are all forms of egoism.
It is the egoism, which has been created through false impositions, that binds karma (Karma is bound by the subtle belief of doership in any action, which leads to the cycle of cause and effect life after life).
It is also the egoism that experiences the fruits of karma. When this ego leaves, you can return to your own place, the Self, where there is no bondage
True freedom is freedom from this burden. We believe wrongly that someone else controls our destiny and makes us happy or unhappy.
We alone, not some imaginary supreme power, are responsible for our destinies.
We create our own misfortune and become entangled in it; we remain trapped within the painful cycle of birth, death and rebirth.
Only we have the power to release ourselves from sorrow through our own efforts. Awareness of this power is self-realisation.
When we realise this freedom, we understand the difference between the soul and its bondages. Requesting favours from a supreme power through sacrificial offerings or chanting mantras is useless.
The power to liberate your soul rests within you. The differences in their karmic bondages cause souls to take different births.
They are all capable of attaining liberation, and must therefore be equally respected and revered. The soul is eternal.
Neither was it created nor can it be destroyed. Every soul is independent and creates its own destiny.
Satguru from Sant matt path to Truth says that God- the formess mind (BG10.22) has bound the soul in a mortal body made of five destructive elements.
God wish to retain the Souls within his domain of three mortal worlds. therefore he has created all these network of Dharma. Karma, Hell and hevaen.
Mind imposes a veil of body that deludes the Soul. The Body creates thrist, hunger, blood relation, family and socity, and the mind fabricates endless desires.
to fulfill their demand Soul spends all the time. It is for the family one commits cheating, fraud, wicked act, corruption etc.
Therefore Soul is bound by God in such a way that it does not know how it is bound, with what and by whom. In this state of being it spends time in crores of rebirth creation after creation.
God has also created many Religions that makes man egoist and confused.
He gives heaven for those who submit to his ways and will. Spiritualist Sant Kabir says.
Sant Kabir says that the real home Souls is Satlok, the eternal world of Truth- reality is beyond the cosmos ( Three worlds).
Ruler of the three world Almighty Kal Purush has created this web of Karma and maya, that has bound the Souls.
Let us leave for our rare blissful home Amarlok. This is the call of a Spiritualist- Adyatmic path.
Sri Krishna gave this option to Arjuna in the begining of Gita in the verses 2.16 and 4.34
We shape our future by our own deeds. Good acts lift the soul to great heights, while bad deeds cause it to slide into despair.Your destiny is in your hands.
No imaginary or external power can help you. Every living being wants to live and be happy. Do not hurt or kill other living beings.
Rather, liberate your trapped soul. One who is free of deceit is pure. Only the pure attain liberation, like a fire sprinkled with ghee. Religion is the pond; celibacy is its sacred shrine.
It is tranquil, with the serenity of the soul. Having purified myself there, I become pure, clean, cool and devoid of impurity.
Once we know that ‘I’ am not my physical body but a soul trapped within this body, we truly begin the path to freedom.
Such freedom is bliss!Misguided by the idea that the physical body is ‘Me’, we carry the burden of the body and everything we possess. We cannot experience freedom as long as we carry this burden.
Our soul is imprisoned in our bodies because of our karmas. It is struggling to be free. A living body is not merely flesh and bone; it is also the abode of the soul.
The soul has the potential for perfect perception, perfect knowledge, perfect power and perfect bliss. The soul brings both happiness and sorrow.
It is its own friend when it treads the path of righteousness, and is its own enemy when it treads the forbidden path. There is no difference between the soul of an elephant and that of an ant.
Through knowledge, the soul comprehends itself as well as the external world. This attribute of knowledge is exclusive to the soul.
The soul is the abode of all virtues, best among the substances and supreme among all realities. Souls are of three kinds—external, internal and supreme.
The external soul is that which is led by the senses. The internal soul is that which knows itself to be different from the body.
The supreme soul is that which has annihilated the karmas and attained liberation. The pure soul is formless and free from the activities of mind, body and speech.
It is free from conflict, detached, dispassionate, unblemished, and free from delusion and fear. The jiva or soul is conscious, eternal, immortal, formless and separate from the body.
It is the doer and the enjoyer of its actions. The ajiva or non-soul does not know either pleasure or pain, cannot identify good and bad.
The soul is formless and invisible to the senses, but it is eternal. Attachment causes bondage, which is the cause of worldly existence.
Karmas bind the soul. A liberated soul is free from attachments. By conquering all attachments, one crosses the ocean of worldly existence.
Excerpted from ‘Live and Let Others Live’: Life Lessons from Mahavira, edited by Nanditha Krishna; publisher: Aleph Book Company
When all the desires get fulfilled, nothing left to win nothing left to loose. When the soul understands the ultimate truth.
Nothing to crave for no fear of losing. When the soul is no More attached to its mortal body. Not bonded by karma anymore. Actions are performed selflessly keeping intellect intact. That is the time the soul liberatesfrom the self.
Just like till the oil is hot, it is capable of frying. Similarly, till there exists heat, heat of desire, thoughts the soul will keep taking birth.
When the heat is lost, conscious enlightens by tasting the nectar of truth. There is no more any reason left for the soul to done a new form.
That is when the soul gets liberated. When conscious turns into heaven of contentment free from hell of self pity, attachment and guilt.
The Soul needs Libration, it means the Soul is bound in a state of falsehood. Soul is not in its natural State of being.
To bind a Cow we need a rope, a pole, and one who can tie the knot. Now our Soul is bound. It does not know who has bound , with what to what
BG 2.16. The unreal hath no being; there is no non-being of the Real; the truth about both has been seen by the knowers of the Truth – Satguru. 4.34.
Know that by long prostration, by question and by service, the wise who have realised the Truth will instruct thee on that path.
However, not knowning where to find a Satguru in the battle ground, Arjuna surrender to Sri Krishna to take part in his mission of battle.
Sant Kabir says; All want to cross the ocean of births and deaths here but none finds the way out without a Satguru
Libration is librating the Soul from the mind that bound the Soul to mortal body. Salvaging the Soul from mind and body is Salvation.
Attaining God’s heaven is not Libration or Salvation as some religions professes. Seek surrender and serve a knower of Truth- Satguru, he will not ask you to worship any God.
Those who revive Satya Naam, the spiritual power of eternal lord of Truth (BG8.20) will transend the cosmos in to the immortal world, never to return ( BG8.21), this is permanent libration.
